What is CrossCurrent?

CrossCurrent is a Christ-centered support group for men 18 years of age or older who are seeking hope and healing in their sexuality. The group is specifically for men who struggle with unwanted same-sex attraction. CrossCurrent is "open", which means there is no formal process of application. Individuals may come for any one or more of the eight weekly meetings. The group places the highest premium on confidentiality, and therefore what is shared is held sacred. CrossCurrent's curriculum was developed by Andrew Comiskey and is published by Desert Stream Ministries.

Who is CrossCurrent for?

CrossCurrent is for men seeking change in themselves, but who have been powerless to bring it about. It is for those who have little or no experience with what it means for Jesus Christ to come into the deep wounds of their souls. Many Christians and non-Christians alike have wounds that they know they need to address, but they don't know where to start. CrossCurrent is a starting place.

Although it is expected that participants (men) are coming for help with unwanted same-sex attraction, CrossCurrent also addresses other issues. These include (but are not limited to) men who feel ill-equipped for healthy or lasting relationships, those with long-standing unforgiveness, addictive personalities, those struggling with self-hatred, victims of abuse, those addicted to pornography and those stuck in cycles of promiscuity.

CrossCurrent does not offer a quick fix. Rather it invites participants to begin to hope and heal through the power of Christ in community. The meetings will offer foundational principles necessary for an enduring and successful healing journey.

What happens at CrossCurrent?

Each meeting is built on worship, teaching, small group discussion, and healing prayer. Men may participate as little or as much as they feel comfortable.

Who leads CrossCurrent?

CrossCurrent is being offered by Regeneration Ministries (Northern Virginia) and coordinated by the Rev. Peter Mitchell. Peter and his team are men who have grasped the hope of Jesus Christ in their own brokenness. Each man's training has come through the surrender of his own life to the powerful work of Christ in community. As our Lord has touched, cleansed and transformed their wounds, He has equipped them and called them to be Wounded Healers. The team is trained to lead with compassion and empathy. Yet it also holds forth the regenerative power of God's Spirit to newcomers who surrender to the cross of Christ and come into His community.

When and where will CrossCurrent meet?

The group will meet on eight Monday nights beginning April 20, 2009, and will run from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. Each meeting will be held in Falls Church, VA.
