How are you packing for this journey of yours away from porn? We refer to this work that you’re doing to break your addiction to porn and masturbation as a journey. Right? Well, if it’s a journey, how are you packing? What are you packing? How are you preparing for this journey on this end? Let me tell you. We have been working on something so special, so special just for you. You a woman struggling with porn and masturbation. We have been praying and writing and creating something so special for you and keeping that metaphor of this work as a journey away from pornography. Have you considered where that journey is leading you to? That something special that we’re working on is hoping to lead you to an oasis. An oasis is exactly what we’ve been working on for you. So just to give you a tiny I’m excited.

You should download it, you should print it out, and you should write in it for 21 days. Every day is inviting you to something new. Every day is offering you God’s word. Every day is presenting an exercise for you to continue on this journey. So I thought, let’s use this episode to prepare you for the journey.

Because if you’re going to the beach, you pack one way. If you’re going on a business trip, you pack another way. Right. This makes sense. So what are you packing as you head towards this oasis and beyond? I remember when I went to South America for my first semester of college. I didn’t know what to expect the weather, the daily routines, transportation, et cetera. So I wanted to bring some things with me to comfort me, to encourage me, and to settle me. I think you need to pack for this journey towards sexual wholeness.

Andrea Smithberger [00:02:25]:

My clients pack some really awesome, practical things for their journey, and I’ve learned so much from them. And so I’ve compiled a list of ideas for you to make your packing list. Are you ready? Okay. As we’re trying to make sense of our struggle beyond scripture, certainly with scripture, but in addition to it, it’s key to use your senses as you make sense of your movement towards healing. So one of the first things that I would suggest you pack is a playlist. What songs build you up? Think of songs that encourage you, that sing praise when you just can’t. A few artists that come to mind for me recently are Davey Flowers davy Flowers and Kirk Franklin. He can boss you around in the best way of how and who God has made you to be.

Elevation worship Stephanie Gretzinger on and on. Maybe you need songs to settle you. Are they instrumental songs or maybe songs that sing scripture like Shane and Shane’s album, psalms, Hymns and Spiritual songs. I’ll link a playlist in the show notes that a bunch of us have put together. And if you have a song that I should add to the list, let me know. I want to add to the playlist along the journey, you may get tired. So another thing to pack would be something comforting. If you download the journal, which you should.

Is there a tea that you like? Do you have a really soft blanket to wrap up in? There will be days you find yourself exhausted. That’s normal. So as you download the journal, as you meet with spiritual coaches, as you pray, as you listen to podcasts, get good rest. You’re heading into new territory. You don’t know how the weather you’re heading into is going to be, so there will be stormy days. There will be smooth days. So rest up. Don’t underestimate the healing power of a good night’s sleep.

Andrea Smithberger [00:04:38]:

It’s so energizing. A rested you means you’re not so cranky and that you will be better equipped to be attentive to and be able to receive all that you’re meant to receive during this special time. Okay? Is your body prepared for the journey? The journey away from porn to your sexual wholeness? And freedom will include your heart, your mind, and your body. A lot of times we limit spiritual work to a glowing candle and pensive, thoughtful solitude. And yes, a lot of times that is just what you need. But a good Zumba class, an intense CrossFit workout, a hike in the woods, yeast can all be just as powerful for you, too. Worth giving a shot. This one is a musthave because.
